General
  • Joshua Redman: Beyond - The re-incarnation of John Coltrane. Tenor sax heaven !

  • Avant Garden: Maelstrom - Just got this one and it rarely leaves the CD player. Jamfest a la Atavism Of Twilight but much more intense.

  • Threshold: Clone - This band can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. The addition of Mac on vocals and Johanne James on drums has cemented this band's line-up.

  • Robben Ford: Discovering The Blues - A live recording from '72 which captures a young and hungry Ford playing pedal to the metal electric blues from start to finish. He was also an accomplished sax player.

  • Spock's Beard: Snow - Mr Morse's swan song is also his magnum opus. Superlative song writing and a very touching tale. One for the ages.

  • Thelonius Monk: Live at the IT Club - 150+ minutes of live Monk in a quartet setting. All his classics (Straight No Chaser, Blue Monk…) are featured. A true visionary and one of the most respected piano players of any generation.

  • Harmonium: L'Heptade - I'm figuring my girlfriend will be there with me and this is her favorite. The premiere Quebecois progressive outfit at the top of their game.

  • Van der Graaf Generator: Maida Vale/ the BBC Sessions - Can't leave home without Peter H. and the boys. This particular disc is a "live in the studio" recording of the finest cuts by a truly underrated band ( their disrespect has always been a pet peeve of mine).

  • Genesis: Selling England By The Pound - No room in the luggage for all the clones so let's bring the original. Another personal favorite of my girlfriend's.

  • High Wheel: There - I made my case for this disc in my review.

  • Hits: 2086
