  • Deep Purple-In Rock - It's long been my favorite DP studio album, but in recent years it's just become my favorite album of all time. One of the first heavy metal albums in my view.

  • Opeth-Watershed - Though I love Blackwater Park, Still Life, and Ghost Reveries dearly, this more recent release from Opeth is just so epic, and brings all the great elements of death metal, prog, and folk together as one. Brilliant band!

  • Alice Cooper-Billion Dollar Babies -Though I'm a late comer to the greatness that is Alice Cooper, this album (and Killer for that matter) is just pure brilliance from start to finish, and I couldn't imagine not being without it, anywhere.

  • Genesis-Foxtrot - I could have put all the albums with Peter Gabriel, but considering this one has the immortal Supper's Ready, it's a no brainer.

  • Death-Symbolic- Best death metal album ever. Super heavy, technical, and featuring Chuck's best vocal performance.

  • Kiss -Alive - The perfect Kiss album, and one of the all time best live hard rock/metal party albums. Just one classic anthem after another!

  • Black Sabbath-Volume 4 - Picking a favorite Sabbath album is like pulling teeth, but due to the bulldozing nature of this album this is the one for me. Close second goes to Heaven and Hell, featuring the arrival of Ronnie James Dio.

  • Dream Theater-Train of Thought - Surprisingly, this has become my favorite Dream Theater release over the last few years, nudging Scenes From a Memory, which is another of my all time favorites as well. Crushingly heavy and complex!

  • Yes-Close to the Edge - One of the definitive prog albums, and just beats out Relayer as my personal favorite from the band.

  • Gentle Giant- In a Glass House - A gem, pure and simple. Ultra complex prog that actually makes perfect sense.

  • The Who-Live at Leeds, Deluxe Edition - This one has it all, all of their early classics in beefed-up hard rock mode, plus most of Tommy. Perhaps the greatest rock band of all time.

  • Robin Trower-Live-One of my favorite "guitar hero" albums of all time, this one still gives me goosebumps.

  • Symphony X-Iconoclast-Their latest is in my opinion their most brilliant. Progressive metal doesn't get any better!

  • Immortal-At the Heart of Winter-If I was going to take one black metal CD with me on my quest, this raging slab from the mighty Immortal would certainly be it.

  • Allman Brothers Band-Live at the Fillmore-Essential live release from this seminal Southern rock/progressive blues act. Duane Allman proved his guitar hero status on this killer set.

  • Paul McCartney & Wings-Wings Over America-Growing up, this was one of my favorite live albums, not just because it was a great live album, but it better represented all the best songs from one of my favorite bands than any compilation ever could, and it still stands up today.

  • Whitesnake-Whitesnake-This was my favorite album throughout the 1980's, and the Snake are still one of my favorite bands of all time. John Sykes proved he was a guitar god on this album, and there's just one heavy rock anthem after another on this barnburner. 'Still of the Night' is still one of my favorite songs to this day.

  • Rainbow-Rising-though most of the Rainbow catalog is pretty damn great, this is THE one to have if you can only have one. Blackmore, Dio, Powell...need I say more? And, any album that has "Stargazer" has to be brough to that desert island!

  • Hits: 7310
