NewsJon Neudorf's Favorite 'Desert Island' CDs

Posted on Monday, October 06 2008 @ 09:08:48 CDT by Duncan Glenday
General Supertramp - Crime Of The Century: This is a classic in every sense of the word. The first compact disc I ever bought.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon: This one started my foray into progressive rock. This release captured the band in all it's greatness.

Pink Floyd - The Wall: Roger Water's commentary on society. I consider this to be a true masterpiece.

IQ - Dark Matter: I love this album. Excellent musicianship and outstanding vocals convey the album's somewhat dark lyrics and themes.

Kansas - The Point Of No Return: I just had to pick at least one Kansas CD and you cannot go wrong with this progressive rock classic.

Everon - Flesh: I really dig this band and this is perhaps my favorite. The title track is a great slice of progressive metal. These guys know how to write fabulous melodies.

Shadow Gallery - Room V: A grand concept album with very strong playing by all involved. In the vocal department Shadow Gallery really deliver the goods.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Angel Station: Manfred Mann's synth playing is second to none, and this album is no exception. This is not his most progressive album but is probably his most melodic.

Threshold - Dead Reckoning: Excellent progressive metal. One of my favorites of 2007.

Queen - A Night At The Opera: This one propelled them to superstardom and rightly so. No one did it quite like Queen and this is one of their best works.

Ayreon - 01011001: You cannot go wrong here. The vocals, the music , the concept; Lucassen at his very best.

Blue Oyster Cult - Fire Of Unknown Origin: A real return to form for the band. Hard rock has never sounded better.

Styx - The Grand Illusion: I seem to pull this one out again and again. They were at the top of their game with this release.
