YOB: Catharsis

I have no idea of the meaning behind the name YOB, the moniker chosen by this Oregon-based doom-metal band. But then again, I'm not sure why this chunk of eardrum pummeling is called Catharsis, either. Slithery vocals, guttural roars, agonistic screams, death-march riffs and meaty rhythms will knock you flat on your ass. Cathartic? Hardly. Just three tracks ("Aeons," "Ether" and the 23-minute title epic) clock in at more than 49 minutes. Maybe playing this music is therapeutic for the YOB trio, and it ain't bad stuff if you want to hear death's soundtrack. Another alternative: Play Catharsis really loud during trick-or-treating hours. No one will dare knock on your door except maybe the grim reaper.
