Saint Jude: Diary Of A Soul Fiend

Described as sounding like a "Modern day Janis Joplin fronting the Faces", Saint Jude are whipping up a storm with debut album Diary of a Soul Fiend which is an up tempo, vibrant, sassy and rewarding ten songs. Taking their blueprint from Classic Rockers of yesteryear, Saint Jude are differentiated by the stunning vocals of front woman Lynne Jackman who lifts what could otherwise have been average material and turns it into something quite special. After making their name on the live club circuit and coming to the attention of legendary Stones producer Chris Kimsey the band were whisked off to Kentucky to record the album earlier this year and Kimsey's contribution has ensured a top-notch end result.

"Soul on Fire" gets the party started and Ron Wood chips in with some deft slide guitar work on lead single "Garden of Eden" which is followed by Faces throwback "Little Queen". Sultry ballad "Down This Road" sounds like it was recorded thirty-something years ago and is all the better for it, a delicate and passionate song where Lynne simply excels and guitarist Adam Greene evidences a remarkable touch. This is a band that simply have to be seen live and if they are half as good as they are on record it will be a hell of a show. With another tender ballad in the form of "Angel" they clearly have plenty of variety in their material and despite the solid retro feel it comes across as both fresh and inventive.
