Quill, The: Hooray! It's a Deathtrip

After taking a sonic trip with Swedish headbangers The Quill, you'll realize rock 'n' roll is far from dead. These four guys cull the flab from the sound of such influences as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Soundgarden and even Monster Magnet, add their own solid sense of melody and brute strength to the music, and emerge with a practically filler-free record that answers the question: Why do we rock?

The 11 tracks on Hooray! It's a Deathtrip aren't revolutionary slabs of rock by any stretch of the imagination. But you know what? Who cares? Singer Magnus Ekvall swallows his Chris Cornell pill before opening his arena-sized mouth, pouring his soulful voice into EVERY FRICKIN' NOTE. The rhythm section of bassist Roger Nilsson and drummer George "Jolle" Atlagic propels The Quill through the murky dirty-dishwater undercurrent, while guitarist Christian Carlsson lifts the music to the shimmering heavens with his electrifying solos.

Produced by Daniel Bergstrand, whose previous credits include In Flames, Meshuggah, Nocturnal Rites and Strapping Young Lad, Hooray! It's a Deathtrip is an odd name for a record that, despite some dark lyrics, is as reinvigorating as this one.
