Whoa, is it 1985? Hailing from Greece, Suicidal Angels have dropped their 2nd full length CD called, Sanctify The Darkness (Sonic Unyon Records) and they have managed to time warp us back to when Thrash Metal ruled and Metallica still had hair. Fans of classic Metal bands like Anvil, Kreator, Possessed and early Slayer will just eat this up, pure old school Thrash Metal done the way it should be done; fast and furious.
Sanctify The Darkness is 11 tracks of very well produced Metal that embraces the old school while fusing in the new. Aggressive and paying a debt to the Thrasher's of old, Suicidal Angels have also been able to make Thrash sound alive and fresh. Their technical musical proficiency is very evident straight away and again the sonically pleasing mix just makes this sophomore effort crush. Evidence of this tight outfit are powerfully shown on songs like CD opener, "Bloodthirsty", "The Pestilence of Saints", and "Beyond the Laws of Church".
Brutal and crushing are the first words that come to mind with this Suicidal Angels release. Sanctify The Darkness starts out sounding like a really good tribute to early Slayer, with the vocals and guitars sounding a little Slayer-ish, but they do turn it around and deliver a really solid effort. This is a balls to the wall old school Metal record with a new school sheen and should find fans both of the old school and new school variety. Suicidal Angels get it right on this record; fast, mean and uncompromising. This is exactly what Thrash was all about and your neck will hate you for it.
