My Favorite Scar: My Favorite Scar

My Favorite Scar is a Dutch band. I stumbled upon this debut purely by accident, talking to a friend interested in music like myself. He told me of a band he recently saw live, and they had just released their debut CD. He handed me his copy. Driving home in my car I played it, and instantly loved the music they made.

All this made me decide they deserved a review here, so here it is.

My Favorite Scar's music is alternative/indie/progressive but most of all addictive rock. You know the type, we have seen many bands cross the charts. Uncompromised music, well within the borders addictive Rock n Roll.

"Liberty is Dead" could as well have been a song by Pearl Jam or the like. "Take Waste" or "This Poison Love", think REM, Live, 30 seconds to mars, but then different. "Kingsize" gave me hints of Blink 182. I could go on and on with all these songs. The pointers are mere pointers as is, the sound of My Favorite Scar is their very own sound, easy to spot if you know some of the music.

To me this was one of my biggest personal discoveries of 2010. They have made use of guitar, keyboards, bass and voice encoding in a charming way. Production for this album has been done by none other than Within Temptation producer Oscar Holleman. This leaves me to introduce you the members of this band, who are Jay (vocals), Evan and Dan (guitars), Pat (bass), and Stephen Stephen van Haestregt (Within Temptation-drums). Whoever plays the keyboards has never become clear to me, as I cannot find it anywhere in the sleeve notes.

I think this is one hell of a production. You can only dream to make a debut album like this.
