We have here another New Prog-metal band, Hookah the Fuzz, who hail from the UK, Birmingham area. Yes another new band, but where were they hiding?
The band name challenges you to the idea what it may mean, and I have given that some thought and came up with, "Who has what it takes, where is the Vibe", well one thing is certain, Hookah The Fuzz sure have it!
The music the band is playing ranges from Metallica like sounds, Megadeth possibly, but also Pendragon, Marillion, Porcupine Tree even, and let us not forget Dream Theater in this completely unique sound of Hookah the Fuzz.
These guys already have a sound where most progressive rock bands arrive after a couple of years in their career, yet this is the debut album of a band we need to watch. Keep an eye out for these guys, this is an absolutely awesome debut album.
The band is relatively young of age looking at the promo pictures. Currently they are on tour to promote this debut album. 8 songs all over 6 minutes in length. The music is melodic, heavy, progressive, well structured, with nice twists in the songs. Some bits are slow and mellow, followed by faster parts. Clean singing, dark voices, grunting, everything comes along here.
Basically, there is not one weak spot on this album. This CD is a must have for every well respecting Progressive rock fan.
I have listened to this one many times now, yet I still cannot believe what I am hearing here. Grandiose solos, tempo changes, well, almost too much to mention in an album review actually, so listen for yourself. Absolutely Stunning!
