Controlled Bleeding: Penetration (remastered)

Formed in Boston in late 70's, Industrial act Controlled Bleeding have had their 1992 record, Penetration, re-released by Metal Mind Productions. While having released a slew of albums through the 80's and 90's, Penetration was the only one that was released on a commercial label. While not a household name, Controlled Bleeding developed a reputation for being a respectable and quite unpredictable outfit.

Penetration is a very experimental and overly Industrial brooding record that will most likely find a fan in those into the genre. Part Metal, part Noise and all Industrial, Penetration pots in a wide variety of sounds and textures stemming from a bunch of different influences that come to a head. Electronica, odd scratchy sounds mixed with futuristic sounding vocals is what you will find on these 10 tracks on this re-release. There are times where the Metal influences take the lead, but overall the record is filled with almost too much variety. The song "Now Is The Time", being the most metallic of examples. But fans of bands like Ministry, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM/MDFMK should be right in line with this band.

Penetration is all over the place and a bit scatterbrained in all of its Industrial-ness, and it is a bit of a mind boggle of a listen. Controlled Bleeding and their record Penetration were both missed by the masses the first time around, but if you like your Industrial music on the experimental tip, check out these guys and you might be quite surprised. Penetration turns out to be Controlled Bleeding's most powerful CD in their back catalog and it is now available in a nice Digipak, 2000 CD limited edition.
