I had previously viewed clips of different prominent metal bands performing their takes on the theme songs from The Simpsons or Power Rangers and the like, well now here is a band called Powerglove that you could say specialize at exactly that. Once Powerglove furnish these tunes with a shot of their dynamic metal it's very enjoyable listening to the transformations. Saturday Morning Apocalypse is the latest from Powerglove but they do have previous releases, the material they cover ranges from familiar cartoons and movies to video games. I can just picture Homer and Bart Simpson head banging to Powerglove's cool version of their theme, maybe the show's producers should consider using Powerglove's power metal recording instead for a change.
With an impressive group of musicians Powerglove could most probably match up with many other metal bands, but they haven't just chosen to do straightforward simplistic covers either as the music is varied, taking the original tune and then coming up with clever interpretations, and they also like to kick the pace up with blazing shred work. The majority of songs are of the instrumental kind, but Sonata Arctica's Tony Kakko does make an appearance on vocals as he sings the Pokemon theme. Saturday Morning Apocalypse also includes metal versions of themes from X-Men, Batman, Transformers and they even rip it up on The Flinstones and Inspector Gadget which has some seriously fast drumming as they get rightly pimped by Powerglove. What metal band would have the balls to cover Heffalumps and Woozles from Winnie The Pooh?... Well Powerglove do and it rocks.
Saturday Morning Apocalypse is full of fun tunes, and for those metal fans that have kids well here's an album you can play in the car and keep everyone happy.
