Beatcoffin Bastard: Trespassing In Death's Territory

Based out of Finland, young Death Metal band, Beatcoffin Bastard have a new 3 song ep, entitled Trespassing In Death's Territory. Their latest effort is filled with some nice technical guitar playing and of course the obviously fast obligatory drumming and deep growled vocals. Influenced by bands like Nile, Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir, Beatcoffin Bastard are trying to continue their traditional Death Metal path mixed with some solid musical performances that could take them to the next level.

With the oldest member of the band being only 23 and the youngest being 19, Beatcoffin Bastard could have a nice career ahead of them. I am not a fan of the "deathy, growled" vocals and even I was able to enjoy the music from these guys. There are elements of Thrash and even a band like Opeth steeped in this band that does come to the surface. Opening track "The Apostate", has that classic Opeth signature guitar riff feel to it and is actually quite good.

Especially for a young band, even having been around since 2006 when they were all teenagers, Beatcoffin Bastard sounds like an older, seasoned band. These 3 songs are complex and deep with texture, and add in the classical guitar passages on the CDs title track and you have a solid effort here. For me, I wish they did away with the deathy, "cookie monster" vocals or at very least threw in some clean vocals to the mix. Other than that, this is a really good demo. And if you are into the Death Metal thing, you will surely dig this new band out of Finland. Put Beatcoffin Bastard on your radar!
