PSI Corps: The Shadow Creatures EP

The end result of a perfectly crafted piece of music is that it should be a powerful statement that provokes a reaction; it should be memorable, impressionable and not afraid to challenge.

PSI CORPS are a unit that I have a bit of a soft touch for. Why? Well there are a few reasons why. PSI CORPS does not conform to a rule book, hell they don't conform to any set rules when recording albums, they like to experiment with soundscapes, no two pieces of work are identical in approach, they conform to the listed items above in the opening paragraph and they have a knack of writing awesome instrumentals. It is as simple as that really.

This e.p. is somewhat unique as it sees just Alisa Coral on all instrumentation this time around, predominantly bass and synths. Boy, she's done a fantastic job here. The wall of sound created is mammoth, the sheer utter power and magnitude makes it sound like the heavens being born. We are assaulted by four convoluted and layered tracks of doomy, experimental psychedelic, ambient soundscapes that bore their way into your soul, possessing your mind, menacing your cerebral cortex. Powerchords thundering their way through time and space whipped and lashed by haunting wraith like atmospheric synth passages.

The E.P sits in between the 2009's Tekeli-li and 2010's All Roads Lead to Amber, which is one of my top five albums of this year. As ever the pieces assembled here are based a book, this time it's "Creatures of light and Darkness", by Roger Zelazny, which interestingly was the author of topic for All Roads Lead to Amber. As with the book what has been created is non linear, hard to follow in places, punctuated with grace and power, atmospheric and evil, but most importantly it's totally awesome.

The beauty of this E.P is that if you go to the link listed below, you can download it for free. I can guarantee that it will have you investigating further.

I have said it before and I will say it again RAIG Records are producing and releasing some very fine albums, being a label associated with class and quality. It's a label you need to investigate now. I do not use those words lightly.
