Giuffria: Giuffria (remaster)

Vastly underrated 1984 debut from this hard rock/metal/AOR band led by former Angel keyboard wizard Greg Giuffria, now remastered by the good folks at Metal Mind Productions. Filled with catchy hooks, soaring vocals, heaping amounts of keyboards, and heavy rock guitars, Giuffria were poised to join the ranks of acts like Journey, Nightranger, and Styx in the arena rock trenches, but unfortunately after two albums and a small amount of success, the band imploded and the storybook was closed.

Lots to like here, such as the heavy yet accessible opening track "Do Me Right", the memorable single "Call To The Heart", and gritty but polished hard rockers "Don't Tear Me Down", "Trouble Again", and "Line of Fire". The line-up for this debut was Giuffria on keyboards, Craig Goldy on guitar (who would soon leave to join Dio), Chuck Wright on bass (Quiet Riot), Alan Krigger on drums, and singer David Glen Eisley. The latter had some surpreme pipes, not unlike Steve Perry from Journey, and quickly became the focal point of the band, but it was always the symphonic keyboard stylings of Greg Giuffria that remained the heart and soul of the band.

Wright and Goldy left before the bands second album Silk and Steel, and before you could blink Giuffria were no more and a new band, House of Lords, were formed from the ashes. But that's a story for another day.

Metal Mind's remaster sounds great, but other than an essay about the band there's nothing by the way of extras in the digipack booklet. If you've been looking for this solid debut from this forgotten band, and been shying away due to the high prices for the previously out of print CD edition, now's the time to seek this out.
