Herman Ze German: Take It As It Comes

Ex-Scorpions drummer, Herman Rarebell has once again tried his hand at releasing another solo disc, this time entitled, Take It As It Comes (Dark Star Records). This CD features 13 tracks of sub-par Rock n Roll clichéd dreck that unfortunately the time that you invested in listening to this record, you will never get back.

Take It As It Comes is filled with emotionless, shallow and uninteresting Rock that lends the question of, "why even bother"? Song titles like, "Let Me Rock You", "Backattack", and of course the re-tread cover of the song that he first covered like 20 years ago, "Wipe Out". And this awful piece of music wouldn't be complete without and a hideous version of the Scorpions classic "Rock You Like A Hurricane". Now you might ask yourself, "how could he screw THAT song up, he even played on the original"? Well friends, imagine the lyrics being read in a quick spoken word style, without any break, like the singer (ugh, more on THIS guy in a minute) was in a race to the chorus. Pitiful! This might be the worse cover version of a song that I've ever heard. Especially in the Rock world! My God Man! Mr. Rarebell, you DID play on the original song, did you forget who the song went??!! William Shatner is somewhere having a great chuckle.

Vocals on the record are provided by Rarebell himself on 3 songs, as well as a singer named Stefan Erz who provides the rest of vocal performances on the rest of the album. Vocal performance is a bit of a stretch as Erz has a terribly annoying voice that can only be described as a melding of the whiny side of Axl Rose meets The Wolfman. The guy has no style, no voice and really just makes you wince in pain when he opens his mouth. This coupled with genuinely bad songs is a recipe for disaster.

Besides the cover tunes already mentioned, Take It As It Comes installs a bunch of original songs that are just as bad. Really bad songs, really bad vocals equals a really bad record. Easily one of the worst records of 2010, Take It As It Comes is a mistake all around. There is nothing about this record that I can that I enjoyed, so I am only giving this record ½ a star because Herman Rarebell played on the Scorpions masterpiece Lovedrive. THAT was a great record!
