Titan: Sweet Dreams
WOO HOO..... Where did this band spring from?
Bombastic Brooklyn band Titan consists of Kris D'Agostino (Synthesizers), Dave Liebowitz (Drums), Josh Anzano (Guitar) and Steve Moore (Bass) with Sweet Dreams being their third release to date. The band has created five different musical soundscapes, a mashed up bag of metal, prog and psychedelic rock that has intensity, magnitude, direction and attitude.
"Sweet Dreams" opens the album with its galloping bass, drum and guitar lines, being layered with some really awesome synth work, creating a pulsating, no nonsense powerhouse track. This really has a retro rock sound, calling to mind the likes of Rainbow, Deep Purple, in their heyday, with its driving crescendo's, oozing class. "Synthasaurs" is more stated and synth orientated, calling to mind Tangerine Dream, the calm after the storm, laid back, torpid, the juxtaposition of what has just passed.
"Wooden Alter Beyond The Alter" confirms what Titan do best, sprawling epic rock jams. I just love the high energy rhythmic bass line, which is supported by Liebowitz succinct drumming. Anzano really creates a whirlwind of guitar runs through the piece as it rises, having stunning meter, melodies that burrow in to the back of your brain. "Highlands of Orick" the penultimate track, has the band continuing on their journey of pleasure, a soiree of musical notes dancing and weaving in and out of each other, been dragged along by Anzano's dexterous finger work.
"Maximum Soberdrive" has those oozing, powerful; back of the neck, hair raising synth tones, commanding respect and attention, driving you to your knees, whilst the Liebowitz, Anzano, and Moore assault you with their instruments, pleasurably.
This is a band that sounds like they are having fun creating these bombastic walls of sonic riffage. Titan take no prisoners, they don't make any excuses or apologies for what they have delivered, seriously creating appeal for fans of such luminaries as Purple, Rainbow, Maiden, Sabbath. Bands like Titan really do give rock a good name. This will definitely be on my deck for quite sometime to come.
Peeps of the world! TURN UP THE AMP. AIR GUITARS READY....... LET'S GO.
