2010 is the year for great Thrash metal releases and Relentless Retribution is the latest, a fiery metal creation from the always impressive Death Angel. Killing Season was another good and memorable album and now Death Angel has returned with more intensity on Relentless Retribution. Which going by the album title and savage cover art is exactly what one would expect to hear.
Like any top thrash band Death Angel have always excelled with their cracking guitar riffs and solos, as they do once more on this new recording . Their distinctive vocalist Mark Osegueda's anger is set free on Relentless Retribution and new drummer Will Carroll shows he has the goods.
"Relentless Revolution" is the semi-technical heavy starter, raising the pace for "Claws In Deep" or so it seems at first as this Death Angel number has those classic thrash style slower groove sections, they then throw in a real curveball with an extended acoustic guitar passage. "Truce" has more speed to offer and like "Into The Arms Of Righteous Anger" the guitars are really smoking. The acoustic "Volcanic" is the lightest track on Relentless Retribution followed by "Where They Lay" as that Death Angel metal returns to close the album.
While some other metal genres seem to be becoming repetitive and less interesting with fewer innovative releases, thrash metal still sounds fantastic thanks in a large part to the old school of bands like Heathen, Overkill, Exodus and this band Death Angel, who still possess the passion to release exciting metal albums.
