Lukather, Steve: All's Well That Ends Well

All's Well That Ends Well marks the sixth solo album from the prolific Steve Lukather, who aside from being most widely known as the founding member of Toto, has been involved in more than 1,000 albums in his role as a session guitarist and composer, arranger and producer. An album of lush textures, warm grooves and delivered with Lukather's trademark attention to detail, it will hold wide appeal to fans of the melodic West Coast sound.

The majority of the songs are mid-tempo with Lukather highlighting his love of laid-back jazz guitar licks; when he does crank it up a notch such as on the stirring "Can't Look Back" the results are equally as satisfying as the deft touches displayed on the aching ballad "Don't Say It's Over" or the moody "Darkness In My World". What the album also evidences is that Lukather is much underrated as a vocalist and he possesses a genuinely soulful voice that is every bit as impressive as the soaring solos that are prominent throughout. "Flash In The Pan" boasts another strong lead vocal with a more edgy feel and an incredibly catchy riff that twists and turns. "Watching The World" almost strays into power ballad territory but the chorus and solo are suitably restrained in keeping with the rest of the material here and it sounds all the better for it. With Toto no longer active (at least on the recording side of things) then his solo career provides the outlet for Lukather's songwriting talents and he has clearly spent a lot of time on crafting All's Well That Ends Well into what must surely be a contender for one of the genuine highlights of his illustrious career.

All's Well That Ends Well is released on October 11th and Steve Lukather tours Europe during November; for the full list of dates head over to his Website below.
