Royal Ghost, The: The Royal Ghost

The promo material sent with this disc says this rock opera started out as a family musical written by Teddy Jonasson with his two daughters. Out of it grew a 29 song story that became this gothic tale of castles, ghost and of course a princess in despair. Try as I might to find out info on this work there is really very little to tell about the group other than they have played a couple of what they call appetizer concerts and the release of this promo.

I would have to say that the 9 songs on this album are very intriguing and does wet the whistle for what might be lurking in the shadows but it also gives such a small taste it is hard to latch onto what they are trying to do. Sure, this disc is filled with the bombast and dramatic music that fans of Trans Siberian Orchestra and Andrew Lloyd Webber will gobble up but it is a very incomplete picture.

I think that they are trying to show the diversity that the show contains. You have the over the top heavy metal of "The Commander", the operatic "The Future Is There For You" and "I'm Alive", even a dose of old style rock and roll aptly titled "Same Old Rock N' Roll". These snippets do serve the purpose and make me want to hear the whole thing but as a release that I would want to have in my collection, I think that I will wait until the whole picture is painted.

I do have to say that those who like this kind of thing, me included, will find much to like on here. What they have giving you as a sample reminds me of another English production, The War of The Worlds by Jeff Wayne. As good as I think that disc is, I would have to speculate on what the complete The Royal Ghost might offer. Let's hope it is as good as what they tickle you with here.
