Dazhbog: Sunset- Legacy of Solitude & Love

This is quite a departure from what I normally receive to review. Being a real (physical) promo coming from Germany, it was sure worth working on though.

I'm not certain as to how categorizing Dazhbog's art: ambient, neo-classical, new age or all of the above? Sunset: Legacy of Solitude & Lost is a completely instrumental album. It is obviously dedicated to and hugely inspired by mother nature, and reflects human emotion at the same time. We can hear, from beginning to end, nature and forest sounds such as: birds and water flowing. This nature soundtrack acts like the common link between all the compositions, so when one track ends with those forests sounds; the next track begins with the same sampling. The music itself is mostly done on keyboards. You can also hear some flute, string instrument, percussions and perhaps a bit of guitar. That being said, it might have all been done electronically since it is not specified. This is a really relaxing release that bears a certain neo-classical / medieval edge in some of the best compositions like: "Nostalgia Haze" and "Solar Essence". Other pieces are more of the ambient type such as: "The Dawn Bloomed Within Your Eyes" and "An Orchid Lullaby", while closing track, "…and the Winds Whispers Your Name" possess a nice epic feel.

As an acoustic guitar player, I would have liked to hear this instrument along with the nature/forest sounds more than keyboards. Still, Sunset: Legacy of Solitude & Love remains a cool album to relax with.
