Deflore: 2 Degrees Of Separation

The Italian band Deflore began in 1999 and consists of Christian Ceccarelli (bass, programming, samples, machines, loops, synths, radio noises) and Emiliano Di Lodovico (guitar, loops, amplified metals, megaphone, radio frequencies). The duo released their debut Human Indu[b]strial in 2005 with their new album 2 Degrees Of Separation released in May, 2010. The band also released Egodrive in 2008.

The band curiously calls their style of music Human Indu[b]strial, the same name as their debut album. On 2 Degrees Of Separation Deflore amalgamate electronica and industrial styles using samples, loops, synths, meaty guitar rhythms and heavy industrial drum beats to create intense walls of sound. The band also incorporate mellower sections and spacey synths adding colour to the band's rich sonic palette. Voice samples are also used effectively at times reminding me of Roger Water's Amused To Death. The overall tone of the album is dark, which has as much to do with the brooding synth lines as anything else. Edgier atmospheres combined with trippy space-like textures meshes well with the band's industrial leanings.

Listen for the heavy industrialized beats of "Electropause" where the build up of synths and electronic elements is quite gripping and the space driven "Doppiozero" where dark tinged synths play alongside a mechanical drum beat before heavy guitar rhythms slowly enter the fold.

This is a solid album of industrial/electronica with a good dosage of space music thrown in for good measure. If that sounds intriguing by all means give Deflore a try.
