SNEW: We Do What We Want

As if there aren't enough AC/DC clones kicking around in the hard rock arena, along comes SNEW (don't ask me I have no idea) an L.A. based band armed with every cliché in the hard rock/ sleaze metal book, right down to the wailing lead vocals of one Curtis Don Vito.

One could certainly argue that on their second album We Do What We Want, SNEW are musically treading in the same waters as other tried and true, straight ahead, three chord hell raisers such as Broken Teeth, Rhino Bucket, Jackyl and Airbourne. However that being said, don't expect the uninspired sounding riffs found on the majority of the songs here to separate SNEW from the upper echelon of rock's three chord masters anytime soon. This certainly isn't meant to imply that any of the bands mentioned above are innovators, because nothing could be further from the truth. What those bands lack in originality though they more than make up for it with an abundance of grit and grime, something that is conspicuously absent on this disc. From the slick and glossy appearance of their promo sheet and website, everything about SNEW seems highly contrived, right down to what matters most, the music. If you've got nothing better to do with your time on a Friday night and are looking for a cheap musical buzz to help wash down those Colt 45's, then by all means indulge away!
