From their home in Bogota Columbia, the band a. Lostfield brings a unique mixture of progressive metal mixed with a Latin tinge to all with the release of Internal Affairs. This project is the work of the trio Daniel Gongora, Ivan Amaya and Ash Lostfield.
First off, there is some very good moments on the disc. The instrumental piece "internal" has a very Santana feel to it and is the best work on here. They also give a very Latin feel to the album closer "just The Things You know". The band is definitely at their best in this genre.
When they go more metal is when the band seems to have a little difficulty. Music wise it is OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Daniel and Ivan share the lead vocals and I do not know which one sings clean and which one uses the more gruff, growly style but they would have been better served without the growling, gravely vocals. Irritating at times and even off key once in awhile it is a detriment to an otherwise decent disc.
They are not going to set the world on fire by any stretch of the imagination but there is some promise and it is something that you might want to listen to every now and then. I like the feel of the music and there are some real possibilities with their style but a lot of work still needs to be done to refine what they are trying to do.
