Kaipa: In The Wake Of Evolution

In The Wake Of Evolution really is a striking gathering of vibrant songs from the progressive rock group Kaipa. With many years of experience having started out in 1974, Kaipa sure know how to compose and execute their exceptional progressive music.

Kaipa's most masterful of line-ups consists of original member Hans Lundin on electric/acoustic keyboards and vocals, who also wrote and produced the album, plus he is responsible for the very cool artwork. Scar Symmetry's Per Nilsson plays both electric and acoustic guitars, quite wonderfully I might add, and this is no doubt quite a change from the explosive Death Metal of his other band. Kaipa's beat comes via the polished strokes of drummer Morgan Agren, Jonas Reingold is on bass, and there are vocals from Patrik Lundstrom and Aleena Gibson.


Kaipa's colorful music kicks off with "In The Wake Of Evolution" which the band introduces with some flash musicianship, and the band really deliver the progressive goods for the substantial duration of "Electric Power Water Notes" , where the instrumental passages are top notch. Kaipa's vibrant folk influences shine so very brightly on instrumental "Folkia's First Decision" and those combined vocals flourish on "Arcs Of Sound".

I have to admit never having the pleasure of hearing Kaipa's material before now and it certainly was time well spent listening to this quality release, In The Wake Of Evolution is just how a fine progressive CD should be, and a must have for prog rock enthusiasts.
