Truth Corroded: Upon The Warlords Crawl

Upon The Warlords Crawl isn't Truth Corroded's most recent release, that was the shared The Devastation/Decimation EP which also featured Double Dragon, however with the thrash come death metal five piece from Australia still touring hard in support of both releases, 2010 seeing them hope to raise their profile outside their homeland and the band working hard on new material for their next full CD, now seems as good a time as any to give this 2008 album a considered listen.

The first thing that crashes you about the head is the big full sound (Scar Symmetry's guitarist Jonas Kjellegren mixed and mastered the disc) on Upon The Warlords Crawl. The guitars are a tightly controlled jab to the chin and Jason North's growl follows through with a swift uppercut, then if you withstand that assault, the constant double kick barrage and mighty chunks of bass will pound you until you fall to your knees. With an approach that rekindles the classic sound of Morbid Angel, Slayer or Cannibal Corpse UTWC is an uncompromising, yet surprisingly melodic offering that shows enough song writing talent and technical prowess to suggest that Truth Corroded may not be far away from putting together something really impressive. The likes of "We Are Failed", which adds a little Pantera swagger to the mix, or the more death inspired "Salute The Horrors", stay convincing throughout and the considered aggression shows a maturity beyond the band's years, as instead of blind thrashing, Truth Corroded alter their attack in numerous ways that demand your attention.

There is nothing in the way of an attempt to push the metal mould, in fact the accusation that in places the album is a little safe could be a fair one. Having said that though, it doesn't detract from the impact of the disc, not even after repeated listens as Truth Corroded always sound true to their musical beliefs and execute them impeccably. With some more individuality on their forthcoming album Truth Corroded could be on the verge of breaking through into the top league, however don't discount Upon The Warlords Crawl as it is still well worth investigating.
