Ravenscry: Ravenscry

This review is of the self titled five track EP, from a five piece female fronted Italian melodic metal band, who call themselves Ravenscry. Evanescence, Soilwork, Within Temptation, Fear Factory, Ayreon, Evergrey are listed as influences.

After experiencing this release multiple times, what comments can I make? Well the production is just fine, the songs come through clearly and with ample potency, and a good deal of the material is heavy, but it isn't exactly refreshing. I'm not implying their songs aren't original, but Ravenscry chiefly sound like a band playing the type of music that others have previously recorded countless times before by similar bands like Evanescene. If anything the orchestral instrumental on this EP was more appealing as the band heads off on a different and unexpected path.

This EP is not the worst release of it's kind, but what little hooks are included here just aren't going to catch anyone's attention, and quite frankly there are better alternatives out there. Most of the songs just failed to keep me interested for any length of time, and I found myself tuning out.
