Antares Predator: Twlight of the Apocalypse

Debut album from this bunch of Norwegian Black Metallers, Twilight of the Apocalypse has just been released via Battlegod Productions. The approach here is one of tight riffs, technical prowess and a futuristic lyrical theme that is exemplified by the artwork. Fans of Nordic Black Metal may point to the largely flat production not quite hitting the mark and lacking in the brutal intensity that usually characterises these types of releases but musically the quality of the songwriting is impressive and the band aren't afraid to mix it up with the furious "Mark 13" in sharp contrast to the morose "Sacrament" which immediately precedes it. Some subtle keyboard interjections help to flesh out the sound of "Orion" and the closing instrumental "Death" provides a suitably overwrought climax.

Some good ideas here that are largely well executed and will hold considerable appeal for fans of the genre.
