My Ruin: A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish (Reissue)

Tarrie B. is labeled as "Throat" on A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish, the dark and angry second album from Los Angeles' My Ruin originally released in 2000 and now inexplicably reissued in a limited-edition digipack that's more attractive than the music. With a guttural voice just this side of Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow, the girl you'd never want to bring home to mom spews often-indecipherable lyrics that rail against God, ex-lovers, music journalists and anything else that makes Tarrie B., as the song goes, "Heartsick." Bloody, blasphemous imagery abounds in both the lyrics and the booklet.

The album wallows in the down-tuned guitars of Mick Murphy and features a song Tarrie B. performs with Jessicka from Jack Off Jill ("Miss Ann Thrope"), as well as a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cover ("Do You Love Me"). Both are highlighted by, you know, actual singing. Plus, Black Flag's "My War" appears as a hidden track at the end.

One more note: This thing has been remastered so you can hear Tarrie B. (a former rapper, by the way) scream with even greater clarity.
