DLGZ Rock 5tet serves up angular, challenging and often-uncomfortable music that defies easy (or even meaningful) description. Imagine punk prog with jazzy, jungle innuendo and DIY indie-rock spirit, and you're halfway there.
After issuing two EPs (one each in 2005 and 2007) the French band released their first full-length album, New Tricks for Old Dogs, in 2009, with songs built on group improvisation. In fact, it's easy to imagine DLGZ Rock 5tet — we have no idea what the initials mean, but there really are five guys in this outfit — never performing the same song the same way twice. But on record, the dense sonic experimentation and disquieting vocals wear a little thin over the disc's one-hour running time. Call it uneasy listening.
