Koritni: Game of Fools

In the tradition of bands such as Rose Tattoo, AC/DC and more recently, the terrific band Strange Karma, Lex Koritni and his self titled group bring to the world their own brand of Australian heavy metal with their newest release Game of Fools.

This being their sophomore studio release one had to wonder if the old jinx would hit them after the critically acclaimed 2007 album Lady Luck. Well you don't have to wonder any longer as the new disc firmly places these guys as one of the bands that may help to revitalize this habit forming style of music. Using the blues based metal as effectively as anyone, these guys have come up with an album that will have you going over and cranking the volume while firing up the air guitar.

Starting off with the churning ode to fast cars and faster women "155" it takes off at just about that speed! If that isn't enough piston pumping metal they also give you a second dose with the high octane "V8 Fantasy". There is something about cars and rock & roll that go together like peanut butter & jelly. Koritni have put out some music that could be dangerous to consume while driving. I had a tendency to push the gas petal just a little bit more while listening to their disc.

The other subject matter on the CD is all tried and true rock and roll fare. From getting burned in relationships ("Stab In The Back"), love ("By My Side") and a multitude of standard heavy metal stories. This is music to throw on as you are out on the highway with nothing but open road in front of you. Being careful about the afore mentioned dangers, this is a great bit of old fashion, good time rock and roll that will also thrill the fans of bands like The Black Crowes and Bob Seger. It is a real treat of the kind of music that grabs ahold of you and doesn't let go. Soon you will know the words to all the songs and be singing right along with the Lex. This was a real surprise disc from the land down under. Give yourself an Aussie treat and be ready to start the headbanging, fist pumping good time rock and roll party!
