I hadn't previously heard of Agah Bahari, the artist whose name graces the cover of this release, but I certainly knew of the keyboard player and drummer, none other than Derek Sherinian and Virgil Donati. What a fine duo indeed to have performing on your debut CD. So, along with bass players Ric Fierabracci, and Rufus Philpot who appears on "Revolving Universe", Agah has assembled a masterful lineup to produce some sweet progressive music.
Agah Bahari is a talented guitarist, his playing on this release is top notch, and Agah also shows what a fine song writer he is with so many quality compositions. Agah was born in Iran and now resides in Canada, and he wrote and produced The Second Sight Of A Mind, with Derek Sherinian as co-producer.
While having enough of its own identity, The Second Sight Of A Mind is full of instrumental music in a similar vein to that of Planet X and the like. As "Collective Amnesia" commences there is no mistaking that dynamic complexity that drummer Virgil Donati excels at, and those distinctive sounds of Derek Sherinian's keys, Agah and Derek's playing truly complement each others. "Orgasmic Sense of Insanity" is a top track, other highlights include "Protectors Caravan" and "The Second Sight Of A Mind" which is a wonderful title number. Actually there are quite a lot of standouts,as overall this CD is one that really can't be faulted.
Who knows when another Planet X release will see the light of day, but for now Agah Bahari's The Second Sight Of A Mind is an excellent progressive/fusion alternative.
