Subaudition: Light on the Path

Light of the Path is the second full length from this Finnish duo that goes by the name of Subaudition. What we have on this disc is basically some calm, eerie and mostly acoustic emotional music.

After being charmed with NeunWelten's Destrunken, I have to admit being slightly disappointed with Subaudition. Far from being a bad album as such, this CD is not as refined as the aforementioned opus. One of my main concerns is the vocals, for they are not always precise. Then come the fact that you have no instrumentals at all. So much for the bad side, let's talk about the good points! Through the means of acoustic guitar arpeggios, riffs, piano, organ, cello, violin, electric leads and percussions, the Finns are carrying some delicate melodies that are filled with sadness and melancholy. You can hear nice musical breaks scattered throughout this album, which are inviting the listener to fall into their eerie path. Vocal harmonies are once and a while melodious such as the ones in "The Soul Unto Aether", where they the shape of a choir, or in the opening track, "Aims of the Sun". "Wall of Water" contains pleasant acoustic parts with organ and is not as sad as the other compositions. "Now that we've Spent all the Light", "Feathers Fall" and "Human Abstract" are my favorite songs on this disc. They all include fine arpeggios; sad cello tones and the last one bring some extra sadness with the violin parts.

Even if Light on the Path is not overly impressive, it does have its Neo- Folk emotional values.
