One thing you have to say about Rob Zombie is that he is a master of the art of juxtaposition. In the soundtrack for his latest slasher epic Halloween II, Zombie uses the soundtrack as an ironic twist to the newest addition to the Michael Myers saga.
Reaching back into the history of rock and roll, Rob takes some of the most beloved tunes and uses them as the backdrop in such a way that it will bring a smile to your face as you realize that "The Things We Do For Love" might just mean something different to Michael Myers than it does to the rest of us. "Nights In White Satin" may not be the perennial wedding favorite to him and "Love Hurts" can really be a real pain when it comes to Myers.
He also uses some real rockers to help perpetuate the story. Motorhead supplies "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch" and Foghat's "I Just Want To Make Love To You" are used well in between short snippets of the movie. Each song has its place and while it may not mean as much if you haven't seen the movie, there is some great music on here. The cuts from the film that are also included seem to get in the way for the most part.
So there are two things you can do with this disc, sit back and enjoy the music while skipping the movie interludes or listen to the whole thing and reminisce about the guy who makes himself known ever October 31st.
