As far as I'm concerned, My Dying Bride is the reference when dealing with Doom Metal. Few bands have reached their level in that specific genre. Chile's own Poema Arcanus is a serious player in that same field. The name is familiar and I might have even done some review of their work in the past.
Timeline Symmetry is a solid slab of great Doom Metal that is jam packed of intensity. The beefed sound production projects the bass and drums right down your skull, while the crushing riffs take care of the rest of your bones. Melodic lead/arpeggios and ambient keyboards are seeping in with harmony. The clean vocals of Claudio Carrasco reminds me of the lower tones from Crash Test Dummies, only this time, the guy can come up with wicked growls too. Their take on Doom Metal is often crunchy with calmer parts, but Poema Arcanus also brings in elements of Progressive music, while a couple tracks add a certain adventurous feel.
There are no bad tracks on this CD, just a series of great compositions to satisfy the Doom disciples. To name a few good ones: "Raven Humankind", "The Average Man's Odyssey", "Mars Lullaby" and "By the Cliff". This is a very safe investment.
