I didn't recall Merrimack as being so good! The Frenchmen sure have worked hard and come up with a very good album that demonstrates both crafty songwriting and top- notch musicianship.
I was lured into thinking Grey Rigorism would be another of those hyper-blasting and powerful Black Metal releases, period, which is partly true. The sound production is effectively powerful, as well as their music. This does prevent Merrimack from being melodic and even more. Great guitar work all the way from both players EsX and Pervesifier; propelled by the strong and intricate drumming of pounding master, Necrolith. Terrorizt is the madman behind the mic, who uses his sick rasps, and sometimes his native tongue, in the spoken form, to promote their Satanic message. Those French Black Metallers are offering a great balance between the faster/vicious side and the bone crushing mid-tempos. Heavily distorted riffs, arpeggios and leads, as well as Black and Roll riffing are melodiously powerful and juicy too, for maximum extreme metal pleasure. A few samplings & electronics are also involved in their song structure, just to add an extra touch of drama.
Of the ten tracks, I personally got a kick out of these compositions: "La Sainteté du Mal", "When the Stars Align", "Désaveu" and the epic/intense 13 minutes + closer, "By Thy Grace".
