Grand Design: Time Elevation

At their MySpace site Swedish rockers Grand Design proudly proclaim that "the 80's are here!" and Time Elevation is testimony to their love for the decade that saw Hard Rock and Metal on permanent rotation across the airwaves and on MTV. Taking their blueprint from Def Leppard's multi-million selling Pyromania and Hysteria, Grand Design pay their own unsubtle tribute to the 80's scene and for those who recall the era with love and admiration then this will be an album of pure Hair Metal heaven.

You will find it all and more here – the electronic drums, layered guitars, the heavy harmonies, fist pumping rockers and that huge arena rock sound that Leppard made their own. Grand Design vocalist Pelle Saether hits all the right notes and at times you could almost imagine Mutt Lange was sat behind the control deck. "Air It Out", "Piece of the Action" and "Sad Sound of Goodbye" are melodic rockers of the highest order and are carried along by the twin guitars of Peter Ledin and Dennis Veldman. And the title of "Let's Go Down Fighting" sums up the spirit of this band – the 80's rock scene will never be resurrected to the force that it once was but Grand Design are all about keeping the vibe alive.

Taken in the right spirit Time Elevation is a glorious homage to a bygone age. Out now via Metal Heaven.
