Dhul Qarnayn: Jilwah

What's behind this rather esoteric covert art? Nothing else than an esoteric album. Dhul Qarnayn is a one-man project; the work of solitary composer that goes by the name of Learza. Jilwah is a concept album dealing with the black book of Satan (Yezidi), which is itself pretty daring since this act is located in Bahrain.

All of this mysticism can be associated with the Black Metal arts, although in this particular case, the musical direction is more of a contemplative and ambient nature. No distorted guitars, double basses or harsh vocals included. Jilwah appears to be some collage of various speech samples; some having a ritualistic edge. Percussions, keyboards, flute, traditional string instrument, choirs, rain, thunder and birds are all forming this one, 27 minutes long composition. The last part of this CD is quite interesting due to the psychedelic/Oriental feel, as well as the ritualistic tones. There you can hear a bit of dark keyboards, percussion and a melody that is being repeated over and over.

Jilwah is maybe not for everyone or to listen to everyday, but still it has its interesting moments, and makes something different to put on your player.
