Accused, The: The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead

It has been awhile since we have heard from Seattle's thrashmasters The Accused. With a new line-up to back founding member and guitarist Tommy Niemeyer, the band has not missed a beat. Vocalist Brad Mowen gives the group even more of a menacing style with his guttural growling as they revisit the land of spatter rock.

The Accused has always been a band that was on the edge. Mixing bits of hardcore and punk, they have accumulated a cult following since their inception in 1981. Through the years they have had brief moments in the spotlight but never gained the notoriety that their music warranted. That might change with the release of the newest version of the group.

Although they give you just a brief foray into the grizzly world of The Accused, 29 minutes over 14 songs, they manage to compress enough maniacal metal into this disc to warrant a warning sticker for those with heart conditions. Niemeyer's blazing riffs are a face melting experience of the most incendiary kind. Be prepared for an unrelenting half hour of pure hardcore thrash.

If there is anything that is detrimental to the album it is the one dimensional aspect of their music. Don't expect any ballads or let up as they pound away from start to finish. Many of the songs blend together and it is hard to pick up where one leaves off and the next one starts, but who cares! When it comes to music to help you remove the paint from the walls, there is no room for the faint of heart. This is raw, energetic and shows no mercy at all. Sit back and blast the cobwebs out with a mega dose of Martha!
