Omaïnen: Routes to Nowhere

Omaïnen are a French metal band that originally formed in 2002 but have struggled to really get going as a regular gigging, music writing band. A five-title CD Death of the Nations was issued in 2006, but the band have only just released the follow-up, another demo, the four-track Routes to Nowhere.

This sounds to me like fairly average metal, in truth. There is nothing much to complain about in terms of the vocal performance (sung, not growled) or the musicianship, but the music itself failed to take me anywhere, excite me or make me want to "rock". I notice that the band's own website and MySpace cite specialist metal reviewers that have been kinder than I have just been, without themselves being overwhelmed. Irrespective, I would be very surprised if there are any readers of this site who think that this band, on the strength of Routes to Nowhere, are doing enough to make themselves noticed in what is a very competitive musical genre.

Average. Doubt me? Listen to the demo CD which is available for free streaming at Routes to Nowhere.
