Bleeding Fist: Bestial Kruzifix666ion

From Slovenia comes the black metal act Bleeding Fist and their latest release on Moribund Records Bestial Kruzifix666ion. With that title, could it be anything but raw, primal chaos black metal? That's what they call themselves, and who are we to argue?

This is a pretty brief album, barely above 30 minutes, with the band ripping into a selection of short tunes that seem to take influence from acts such as Bathory, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and some of the early Norwegian black metal groups of the early 90's. As such, there's not much in the form of originality here, and though the band have really honed in on some evil and brutal sounds here, you just get the feeling that you've heard this all before. There are some admirable lead guitar solos on tracks such as "Celebration Of The Third" and "Sabbath Ov Mist" (the latter also featuring some crisp tremelo picked riffs), and no shortage of manic drum blasts and menacing growls, but somehow it just doesn't seem to be enough. When the band attempts to harness some of the majesty of Immortal and brutality of 1349, as they do on "Dissected Dominion In Blood" and "Morbid Psychotic Distortion (Part 2)" respectively, things do get rather interesting, but I don't think Bleeding Fist have yet figured out how to take their epic tendencies and really put together some really strong material. Some of the pieces are in place, but ultimately it needs a little work. Still, they are without a doubt a band to watch out for in the years to come and could very well make a mark on the black metal scene with some seasoning.
