Killer, The: Not All Who Are Lost…

Hardcore Chicago band The Killer might be the epitome of what is wrong with this genre of music. Like so many bands in this category they take the same old tired approach of laying down the same old heavy riffs, add the same old growling/singing hardcore vocals and say to all, if it worked for others, then it should work for us. While they may have been weaned on the likes of Sabbath, these guys miss the mark with their boring style of sludge that is as repetitious as it gets.

I love a good trip down into the murky depths of hardcore now and then but when I make the journey, I want it to be for something that is going to be different and exciting not the same old stuff that bands have rehashed time and time again. When you add the monotonous vocals of Luke Gray, this one falls far below the standards of what should be expected from any group who wants you to plunk down your hard earned money to buy their disc.

If there is a bright spot on the disc, it is the closing song "The Truth Is(n't) Out There". The grinding guitar piece is a decent bit of metal that is very simplistic but manages to convey more than any other song on here. Maybe the fact that it is an instrumental piece says more about The Killer than anything else.
