Razor Blade Kisses: Twinkle Twinkle Little Scar

Hailing from Southampton, Razor Blade Kisses are fronted by the female duo of Layla and Azedeh, who are both originally from Iran. The appallingly titled Twinkle Twinkle Little Scar is the latest release from these self proclaimed goth rockers and they duly serve up every tired goth cliché in the book. The vocals are predominantly spoken in an irritating nursery rhyme style ("No Strings Attached", "New Nightmare") and they aim to convey a mystical atmosphere which falls well short of sounding sensual and haunting and ends up as inconsistent and with little substance ("Pretty Dead Doll", "The Butterfly"). Musically they are largely about monotonous trip-hop beats and recycled riffs that would probably be passable were it not for the vocals.

From the sugar coated vampire bride imagery of the cover artwork to such tired titles as "Alice" and "Toy Soldier" this is an uninspired effort from a band that have been together since 2000 and there is little here to recommend.
