Fallen, The : Front Toward Enemy

I used to have this girlfriend in college. Sometimes we'd have our downs. Other times, we'd have disagreements. Anyway, we broke up and I started dating another girl. And we had our downs and then our disagreements. When we had those, she'd say, "I wonder what it was that she (the previous girlfriend) did to you to make you so angry." Okay, that's embarrassing and all but I probably wouldn't have thought of it were it not for The Fallen and their angry-as-a-high-school-principal-who-just-woke-up-to-his-trees-filled-with-toilet-paper-vibe 'cause knowing that they named this disc after something you can find on mines and the fact that vocalist Mike Granat (who also shares guitar duties with Mark Venier) sounds like some kids just woke him up with cherry bombs somehow made me want to ask them what the hell happened to make them so angry.

But, see, I do know. These guys slugged it out for a long time. A real long time and it seems like they're just getting some recognition now which kind of has to suck when you think about it. (Not the getting recognition part. I mean, only getting it now. Recognition, that is.) Anyway, what they've done is decided to use their anger, maybe get rid of it. Some of it. I guess guys who write songs with titles such as "Keep Suffering" aren't too intent on throwing it all in the moving van and sending it to the suburbs of Delaware.

Well, no matter. This is really hacked-off stuff, with a little bit of a technical bent. The guys aren't that driven by pure melody but they do have some cool guitar things happening. Sheesh, I don't know. All I can think of is how badly I want them to heal. But, then, if they do, will there still be the music?
