Manooghi Hi: Manooghi Hi

I've heard lots of music in my life; still some artists are coming up with interesting tonalities for our hearing pleasure. Manooghi Hi is the debut self-titled album featuring India's star female vocalist, Mehnaz. This band is counting seven full time members and four guest musicians. A lot of musicians meaning that a wide variety of instruments covered like: guitars, vocals, percussions, tabla, keyboards, cello and violin. The vocals are also varied, and Mehnaz is as ease in English as she is with her native tongue.

This release contains a refreshing and original blend of culture and music. Indian tonalities are all over the place, not only restricted to the vocal parts, but also in the percussions, cello and so on. The listener will witness calm passages, rhythmic ones as well as some pretty funny and fancy moments. The general feel here is of Oriental progressive rock nature. The only little strange elements are the distorted guitars, which I'm not sure are fitting very well here. Other than that, Manooghi Hi is pleasant, entertaining and even funny at times. Intricate, melodic, varied are their song structures, without going overboard. Great tracks abound on this album, such as: "Kismet", "Kali", the nicely laid back acoustic piece called "Bubbles" and the crazy "Mast Kalandar". This last one is actually more or less a place where the vocals are leading with all sort of different vocal sounds and includes a bit of humor too.

There you have it, a nice release full of cultural beauties for a cool musical experience.
