Pollock, Colin: Long Gone

The first full length studio album from Scottish singer-songwriter Colin Pollock, Long Gone is both a bittersweet and heart-warming slice of Americana with influences including the likes of Mark Knopfler, Richard Thompson and JJ Cale. Four years in the making, Pollock has assembled a team of exceptional musicians to realise the project with some deft contributions from Steve Honest on pedal steel and keyboards from Luke Juby.

The publicity shot show Pollock head down, concentrating on his guitar and, seemingly more at home as an ensemble perfomer, he plays the role of reluctant frontman to considerable effect on the understated 'New Depths in Shallow' and the Stax-tinged 'El Caudillo' with the mood benefiting from some subtle reinforcement provided by the rhythm section of Max Zastiera and Vinzenz Benjamin. Closing number 'The Road Is Long' is inspired by the life and times of MLK and is both graceful and distinctive. Delicately crafted and evocative, the end result is a picturesque collection of old fashioned vignettes.
