Minethorn is the side project of The Axis of Perdition's guitarist, Brooke Johnson. It was actually formed even before, but was put aside for ten years. Now, Minethorn is back to life, with a complete line-up of five members, to offer the world their debut, Junk Hive Noir .
Industrial Metal is not a frequent or very popular metal genre, but the fans of somber ensembles like The Axis of Perdition will find in this nightmarish opus something to rely on. This industrial work is heavy and crushing on one side, and cinematic plus somewhat melodic on the other. Music like this is pretty demanding, and the listener has better be prepared for a powerful and very dark piece of metal. Even if their are a few electronics, samplings and keyboards involved, the bone crushing riffs of founder Brooke Johnson bring a great deal of heaviness. His melodic lead playing adds harmonies to the other ambient elements. Discrete raspy vocals will guide you through this hellish journey. Only one instrumental to be heard , being the unnamed closing techno-ish track, although numerous musical breaks could also be found on this disc. Lots of very good darkened hymns here like: "Consumer", "Detrivore", "Reign" and the opener "Density".
Intense, crunchy, cinematic and industrial are the key words to remember with Minethorn.
