Another entry in the 'official Gentle Giant bootleg' series, this one on Major League Productions Ltd. (MLP) and featuring a 1975 University show from Stockholm, Sweden, originally recorded for Swedish Radio. Pretty neat packaging on this live set, housed in a small cardboard sleeve plastered with plenty of colorful live photos and a fun essay from drummer John Weather who talks about the tour and the Sweden show. The set list is quite good, though very similar to many of the other shows that most GG fans have heard from that time period. Sound quality is surprisingly solid, easily better than many of the other recordings that have floated out over the years, and gives a great representation of the power of this band during that time period. This Club Karen gig (the Student Union at the college had their own venue) featured some songs from the then new album Free Hand, like the title track and "Just the Same", plus older staples such as the complex "Cogs In Cogs", the mighty "Proclamation", the In a Glass House medley of "The Runaway/Experience" (which is fantastic here by the way) and extended versions of "So Sincere" and "Plain Truth", the latter two featuring long percussion jams and a terrific violin solo from Ray Shulman.
The virtuosity of this band cannot be questioned, and on Live at Stockholm '75 their powers are fully on display. Though Playing the Fool might very well be their 'official live statement', this CD is a must hear for every Gentle Giant fan out there. Not only is the music great, but the photographs are a must see as well.
