Sinner: There Will Be Execution (remaster)

If you are in the mood for super crunchy power/speed metal, look no further than this 2003 set from veteran German metal act Sinner. Formed way back in 1980 by bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner (also bassist for Primal Fear), the band have recorded numerous strong releases over the years, and this one (now being reissued and remastered by Metal Mind Productions) featured a reunion of their classic line-up of Sinner, guitarists Tom Naumann & Henny Wolter (also of Primal Fear), keyboard player Frank Rossler, and drummer Fritz Randow. The results are a mix of speedy, breakneck metal tracks with more heavy & grinding pieces, and the guitar work throughout is simply brilliant.

To name highlights here would basically list the entire album, but songs to look out for are the first two killer numbers "Higher Level of Violence" and "There Will Be Exection", plus the manic pinch harmonic attack of "Finalizer", "Requiem for a Sinner", and "Black Monday". Naumann and Wolter really steal the show here, their riffs are lean and mean, the solos wicked, as each song is packed with enough guitar firepower to light up a continent. Sinner's vocals are solid, and though he doesn't quite have the pipes of his comrade Ralf Scheepers in Primal Fear, he also has a somewhat Rob Halford-ish style to his vocals.

This remastered edition contains a few bonus cuts-the cover of Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam", Accept's "Balls to the Wall" (which is really good), and "The Truth Is Out There". The sound quality of this release is kick ass, and the impressive digipack comes with full lyrics, artwork, photos, and an essay on the band. Simply put, this is stellar German metal for those who like little nonsense and plenty of crunch.
