"Hold The Heathen Hammer High"! Viking metallers TYR launch their latest attack with this one, uniting a fury of instruments and vocals, an upbeat cracking metal tune with plenty of staying power, and a mighty chorus that truly lodges itself in your memory. In fact, it's probably the best song on here, so an ideal choice to commence their newest hefty CD, By The Light Of The Northern Star.
TYR's guitarist and vocalist Heri Joensen, has a strong voice that's a great counterpart for the other members powerful performances on By The Light Of The Northern Star. Besides the stirring opener, other notable songs include the non English tracks "Trondur I Gotu" and "Turia Torkilsdottir", the pounding battle number "Northern Gate" and the last two tracks have TYR unleashing more of their wrath with "Hear the Heathen Call" and "By the Light of the Northern Star".
I am no TYR expert, how By The Light Of The Northern Star compares to their other CDs I cannot say, as for other Viking metal band's CDs, well on the whole I prefer Amon Amarth's latest Twilight of the Thunder God. However By The Light Of The Northern Star is a very likeable CD with its share of heavy metal clout, and for those whom only like clean vocals, then this would be the better option.
