Swedish Black / Death Metallers Necrophobic mark their 20th anniversary with the release of sixth full length album Death To All. Their membership has changed several times over the years and the current line up features members that have been involved in Exhumed, Dismember and Therion amongst others and, staying true to form, they remain as intense, dark and brutal as they ever were. The vocals of Tobias Sidagrd deviate between Death Metal growl and Black Metal rasp but are, for the most part, decipherable and have regular interjections of melody. Kicking off with 'Celebration Of The Goat' they fuse together all the elements of old school thrash with modern metal and the end result is as viscous an opening number as you are likely to hear this year. Necrophobic have a history of releasing Anti-Christian diatribes and the unrelenting aggression of 'Revelation 666' and 'For Those Who Stayed Satanic' are very much in a similar vein so if you are offended by the likes of Slayer then this is probably not one band you should be checking out anytime soon. Black Metal fans will naturally find much of interest and the three part, nine minute epic title track is where it all really comes together with acoustic elements, choral sections and an ever-present forboding and malevolent atmosphere.
